Special Exhibit   “Building Iron County”
at the Iron County Historical Museum
Our lives are frequently impacted by two things…..the people whom we have contact with….and
buildings that we are familiar with as we grow.  The people whom we contact are often classmates
from school, some of whom may become lifelong friends.  But the buildings help establish a time line
for our lives.
With a history that goes back 135 years, there have been many changes that have taken place.  There
are new school buildings at West Iron and Forest Park.  There are new road routes for US-2 and County
Road 424.  Stambaugh and Mineral Hills are now part of Iron River.  But when Iron County began, it
began with people and buildings.  First, there were the mining structures to support the removal of the
ore.  Then, there were other structures to support the communities.  Those are the structures we will
be looking at.
The program will show the evolution of some of the buildings in the county.  We will try to explain the evolution and provide some history to go
along with the changes.  The pictures that you will see are from the picture archives of the Iron County and Crystal Falls Museums as well as those
pictures from the Reporter newspaper and various publications.  The historical information comes from many sources, and is based on extensive
research of our museum staff.

“Building Iron County” Beam Reception.  Beam will be painted by Amy Brzoznowski to be held on June 18, 2015.
“Building Iron County” Beam Reception includes the painting of a 30’ mural on a ceiling bean in Heritage Hall illustrating historic
buildings and 2 programs.  Painted on the seven panel mural will be depictions of approximately 25 historic buildings from the
seven main cities in the County.  Musical entertainment will be provided by Whitewater.

“Building Iron County” Revue written by Bill Leonoff to be held on July 9, 2015.
